Throw Away?? How about Give Away!

 

Are you moving or downsizing and have a heap of stuff that you don’t need or want? Don’t fret; Design2Sell has some great suggestions on ways to get rid of some of your old and unused items, without sending them to the garbage bin.

 

Furniture:

Furniture Bank provides essential household furniture to individuals and families moving out of homelessness, battling HIV/AIDS, and fleeing domestic violence. www.furniturebankatlanta.org

 

Clothing:

Local Goodwills fund job training, employment placement services and other community programs by selling donated clothes and household items in retail stores and on online. www.goodwill.org

Dress for Success Atlanta helps promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women be supplying women with professional attire, a network of support and helping them with career development tools. www.dressforsuccess.org

 

Shoes: 

Nike Reuse A Shoe recycles athletic shoes and reuses the outsole, midsole, and fabric from the shoes upper which are eventually used in track and playground surfaces, basketball and tennis courts and new nike products. www.nikereuseashoe.com

 

Tools:

Habitate for Humanity will accept old tools and building materials for their future projects. www.atlantahabitat.org

 

Toys:

 

 

Stuffed Animals for Emergencies accept toys, stuffed animals and baby blankets which are given to children during emergency situations like fires, hurricanes ect.  www.stuffedanimalsforemergencies.org

 

Foster Cares provides free clothing, infant equipment and developmental toys to thousands of foster children. They also serve grandparents raising grandchildren and relatives caring for relative's children for a limited time. www.fostercares.org


Books:

Shelteringbooks provide books for homeless shelters. www.shelteringbooks.org

Book Fair AAUW sell used books and the proceeds are used for  scholarships and programs for girls and women.  www.bookfairaauw.org

 

Mattresses:

Nationwide Mattress Recycling accepts all types of  mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture for recycling. www.nationwidemattressrecycling.com

 

For Donating to locations that take all of the above try: Donation Town which gives to homeless charities, veterans, hospice, cancer/medical, humane society ect. and includes Free pick up! http://www.donationtown.org/ Or try the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers provide spiritual, social and emotional assistance for men and women who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves. http://www.satruck.org/donate-goods
